A federal appeals court says singer R. Kelly was correctly sentenced to 20 years in prison on child sex convictions in Chicago. Jurors in 2022 convicted the Grammy Award-winning R&B singer on three charges of producing child porn and three charges of enticement of minors for sex. Kelly's attorney called the decision disappointing and says they will ask the U.S. Supreme Court to review Friday's decision by the Chicago-based 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. Kelly is also serving a 30-year sentence imposed in New York for federal racketeering and sex trafficking convictions. He has separately appealed that sentence.

Friday’s sentence could carry up to three years in prison. Three of five Denver-area first responders prosecuted in the Black man’s death have been convicted. McClain’s name became a rallying cry in protests over racial injustice in policing that swept the U.S. His mother says justice has not yet been served. She says the two officers who were acquitted were complicit in her 23-year-old son’s killing and that they have escaped justice.

The defense’s cross-examination of former National Enquirer publisher David Pecker in Donald Trump’s hush money trial in New York has ended in his fourth day on the witness stand. Trump lawyer Emil Bove wrapped up his cross-examination Friday. Pecker says “I’ve been truthful, to the best of my recollection.” Bove earlier argued that Pecker’s testimony has been inconsistent with statements made to federal prosecutors in 2018. But Pecker stuck Friday to the story he has given in court.
