It may be the most hotly discussed topic on the Iron Range, and it certainly has taken center stage at the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce and Minnesota Capitol this year: permitting reform. Jennifer Byers with the Minnesota Chamber joined us at the Minnesota Discovery Center Mineland Reclamation Building on Tuesday to present the Foundation’s report on the the environmental permitting process in Minnesota and how it stacks up to other states. The Chamber has made strides in this conversation. This report is a great foundation on which to make progress for our shared industry interests. We look forward to working with our agency partners in making Minnesota a competitive place to permit - while maintaining high standards. This morning we are in Mankato at Compeer Financial along with Greater Mankato Growth and friends from agriculture, construction and engineering sectors to discuss the important findings of the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce recent report from the Chamber’s Foundation on the state’s environmental permitting process. Great discussion on the real world experiences of how permitting has slowed or diverted investments. Important to note that we are making progress in advancing the recommendations of the report. Yesterday, the MN Senate advanced a bill providing support to the renewable energy sector that includes one recommendation from our report for coordinated project plan for economic development projects proposed in Minnesota. We appreciate the progress. Now we have more to do to advance reforms more broadly to help all sectors - from agriculture to manufacturing - to ensure Minnesota can compete, grow and protect our environment. https://lnkd.in/g_yerzJh
